Britain’s Best Selling Cars of 2022
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), used car sales for the second quarter of this year have decreased by 18.8% compared to last year.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected the motor industry, and nationwide lockdowns stopped motorists from visiting dealerships and booking test drives.
Despite the decline, 1,759,684 transactions have been completed this year, and we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 best-selling cars in Britain.
Ford Fiesta
It shouldn’t be surprising that the Fiesta is at the top of the list. A favourite among drivers, Ford even created a car-derived van version.
It’s a consistently popular vehicle that improves with every new version, the latest of which features an EcoBoost Hybrid engine to increase responsiveness, performance, and fuel economy.
Number of transactions: 71,429
Vauxhall Corsa
If you’re doing a lot of city driving, the Corsa is a car worth considering. With a small size and stylish design, you won’t have a problem manoeuvring around tight corners or into tight parking spaces. Assist features like the rear-view camera help make reversing out of those parking spaces much easier.
The Corsa also has a speedy powertrain, which is sure to appeal to drivers who want to have a little more fun with their everyday driving.
Number of transactions: 57,306
Volkswagen Golf
This is another popular car that appeals to a wide range of drivers. The dynamic chassis control offers a customisable cruise control feature that allows drivers to choose the cruise control that best suits them and their driving style.
Later Golf models now feature an entirely digital cockpit, which can add that premium feel to an otherwise practical hatchback.
Number of transactions: 54,268
Ford Focus
Fourth on our list is the Focus. It’s an ideal family car due to its size and practicality. Several connectivity features, like Connected Navigation and Ford Secure, ensure that you connect smoothly and can utilise security features when necessary.
The latest model features the EcoBoost Hybrid engine to boost performance and make the driving experience less demanding.
Number of transactions: 54,144
MINI
Last but not least is the MINI, a car that’s a part of the BMW Group. Known for its iconic design, the MINI Hatch is available in several different colours, making it perfect for drivers who prefer customisation.
The three-door hatchback has a Twinpower Turbo engine that promises a punchier driving experience, cutting down on fuel consumption to increase fuel economy.
Number of transactions: 42,268
